Adventures with Winnie: The Spunky Corgi and Her Mischief

Last and not the very least, we have come to Winnie. She is 2 years old and the rambunctious and independent of the pack. She is the half-sister to Brewer. They share the same father, but her mother is a Merle Corgi. She has Pembroke Welsh Corgi and Australian Shepherd which is why she has one blue eye. She is very vocal, head strong, and “beats to her own drum.” That is what the breeder told us the day she was coming home.

When we brought her home, we bought her a stuffed lamb chop toy. We would wrap a warm bottle in a blanket and put the lamb chop next to her so she would feel like she was still with her siblings. When it was time for her to get spayed, I brought lamb chop with her. She had to stay the night so they could make sure there wasn’t any difficulties. The ladies at the vet thought I was a little silly, but I explained she sleep with it. They told me that after her surgery and while she was still groggy, she curled up next to lamb chop and went back to sleep. With all the toys she has, this one has lasted the longest and she still sleeps with it.

She definitely keeps all of us on our toes. When she knows what she wants, she will not stop until she get its. Whether it’s a toy or someone’s attention, she will not give up. Now when Brewer was her age, we signed him up for Bark Box. This is a monthly subscription where they can get toys and treats. After 24 boxes and several toys later, we have filled 2 garbage bags of just dog toys. When we brought her home, she decided that all those toys now belong to her. She still has an issue with sharing, but she’s gotten better as she’s growing up. Another one of her favorite things is a kiddie swimming pool. We got the smallest one when she was tiny, but she’s know graduated to a larger size. Whenever she gets the zoomies, she will end up jumping into her pool to cool off.

Her best friend is Ruger and she loves jumping on him. He has a lot of patience with her. Another one of her past times is tugging on the rope with Ruger and Bandit. She may be small in size, but her mouth is as big as them (or she sounds like it). I will have to attach a video later. It’s funny to watch. She’s very nosy and inquisitive. She like to think she’s helping whenever there is yard work to be done. I was spreading red mulch in a flower garden and she decided to help by rolling around in the fresh, wet mulch. Fortunately the red dye isn’t permanent and wore off her fur fairly quick.

When she came home, it was hard to believe how small and tiny she was compared to the others. Brewer was VERY protective of her and wouldn’t let anyone around her much less play with her. Now that’s she’s older and bigger, he doesn’t worry too much about her as before. She has definitely proven that she can hold her own. She loves to play rough. I’ve had to start using oven mitts to play with her just so I don’t get bit. She has her sweet side but I can honestly say that she is the reason I stopped at 6 dogs.
